At a recent ORCi Appeal hearing, Andy Sturt (168) was re-instated at 2011 ORCi National Champion.
The result had been in doubt having been changed twice before, but this final appeal, held at Coventry Stadium on Saturday 3rd September, confirmed the final result, once and for all.
Northern Ireland's Micky McFall had crossed the line in an incident packed race which saw several front runners go by the wayside courtesy of an expansion tank exploding and depositing its contents on the back straight and into turn 3. A massive crash resulted in a mid race red flag and many retirements.
The remaining laps were a close affair including what turned out to be a controversial move that gave Micky McFall the lead from Andy Sturt.
The result was announced as a Micky McFall win, with a disgruntled Andy Sturt second who clearly thought that the winner would be docked.
A post race protest by Andy Sturt was upheld and he was announced as the winner post meeting.
Micky McFall excercised his right to appeal that decision, which he did and his appeal was upheld and he was re-instated as the winner!
A driver is allowed and appeal against any decision and further to the appeal from Micky, Andy Sturt proceeded with a counter appeal, which he ultimately successful with and is now the final confirmed winner of the 2011 Stock Rod National Championship.
The final result read as follows :
Winner - Andy Sturt
2nd Place - Jonathan Lattka
3rd Place - Micky McFall
