The annual Veterans Day returns to Hednesford Hills Raceway on Sunday 23rd June 2019!
Veterans Day always brings something special back to the ¼ mile banked oval with faces from the past returning to a spiritual home to compete in the Unlimited National Bangers whilst the new era of drivers show off their skills in the ‘Back To Basic’ Bangers.
Non-contact action is provided in the form of the Classic Hot Rods which brings us full circle as Hednesford Hills Raceway is the home of hot rod racing!
A busy day is planned with the three formulas all competing for their own respective trophies.
The Unlimited Veteran National Bangers will be divided as with previous years with classes separated to pre` and post 1985. Mk 3 Granada and 740 Volvo models are allowed in the Pre` 85 class but Duratec engines are not permitted except in the post 85 class. There will be two heats for each class which will be nudge and spin rules and a final with full National Banger racing rules in effect. The day will be wrapped up with a destruction derby where only one car will be left running! The final trophies will be in memory of “Krazy” Keith Godden. A name well known back in the day up in the Hednesford Hills!
The ‘Back To Basic’ Bangers make a return to the Veterans Day fixture and at time of writing there are over 70 cars already booked-in! We ask that drivers paint there cars for the event to join the spirit of the show!
The ‘Back To Basic’ Banger drivers will be competing for the Lloyd Isherwood Trophy. Lloyd raced up and down the country but could always be recognised at Hednesford Hills Raceway racing in the Men In Black team. The number 83 car was always one to watch for getting in the action!
It’s sponsors galore for the ‘Back To Basics’ and our thanks go out in advance to all who have given their support to the event. They are:-
D.H. Videos – Sponsoring a DVD to each race winner.
Paul Davies - £30 to the best presented car of the day.

Heat 1 is sponsored by DL Metals with Dale Locker presenting £50 to the heat winner and Nathan Knowles of Crackerjack Motors presenting £50 as an entertainer award.
Heat 2 is sponsored by Shrub Service Station with Jamie Holloway presenting £50 to the heat winner and Kane Hamilton of Hamilton Recovery presenting £50 as an entertainer award.
Final is sponsored by Form Fabrications with Ashley Law presenting 3 vouchers (1st £50 voucher, 2nd £30 Voucher, 3rd £20 Voucher), Steady Eddy is presenting 1st £50, 2nd £30 & 3rd £20. Last but by no means least is S3 Breakers with Chris McDermott presenting £50 as an entertainer award.
The Destruction Derby is sponsored by Chase Car Spare / Race Car Direct who will be providing and building a car for the DD winner to race at the Man Of The Midlands Championship held at Hednesford Hills on Sunday November 3rd 2019. Matt Newbold from Bumpers Auto Salvage is presenting £30 to second place and Perry Downes from PD Scaffolding is presenting £50 to the most destructed.
Completing the line-up are the Classic Hot Rods!
It is on Veterans Day that we remember the founder of Hednesford Hills Raceway as the Classic Hot Rods compete in the English Open for the Bill Morris Trophy.
Many say that without Bill Morris the sport of Hot Rod racing would not of evolved into what it has become today as Bill was the driving force behind hot rod racing but also built Hednesford Hills Raceway where it all began and his innovation of creating a banked oval for the hot rods would bring many to call the venue at home of hot rod racing!
The Morris family will be in attendance to present Bill’s trophy and they say the sport is in the blood and this is very true as the third generation of the Morris family are still involved with the raceway today with Bill’s grand-daughters Heidi and Hayley.
Let’s hope the gods are smiling on us on Sunday 23rd June and the sun shines as we head for the Hednesford Hills for an event that is always good fun for all.
See you there!
