Superb Action Weekend at Incarace - Added 11/04/2011

Well done to all drivers, Staff and Officials for a cracking weekend of racing at Birmingham and Hednesford.

After a lively Saturday night at Wheels, Hednesford proved to be a very hectic session with many incidents, but despite all that went before them, everyone did a superb job allowing the meeting to finish just about on time with 3 minutes left!

On the injury front, its good news from Luke Loveland who had to be cut out of his car after the F2 National - he was released from hospital at midnight and is now at home nursing a sore back. Dave Harley wasnt quite as lucky and spent the night in hospital, but he should be released later today (Monday) with a back brace fitted as he has a fracture of a bone in his back. The injured Banger driver Dan Smith, who was transported to hospital after a Heat 1 crash was released fairly quickly and indeed made it back to the track to watch the Banger Final and Destruction Derby.

Best of luck to all three drivers for speedy recoveries
and we hope to see them back on track soon.

Congratulations to all the race winners over the two days (including the 2 Litre Banger Wild Card winners who now find themselves firmly on the grid for the big race at Hednesford on 15th May

It was superb racing all around.

Here is a review of the weekend as penned by Dave Goddard....

The BriSCA Big League made their first Incarace appearance of 2011 at Incarace last weekend, and what a weekend it was! Perfect weather, a huge field of F1s at both meetings including a nine-strong Dutch presence, and very close racing all around.

The BriSCA F1s were at their usual very best Birmingham form, with 16 Matt Newson coming on strong to win the Final on the debut of his new tarmac car only to fail post race scrutineering handing 4 Dan Johnson the spoils from 321 Ed Neachell and 390 Stuart Smith who was racing his shale car. Neachell had earlier won the consolation sans aerofoil after rolling in his heat, which had been won by his brother 322 James Neachell. The other heat went to 2 Paul Harrison and the Grand National to Smith after a last bend lunge on 463 James Morris.

The F2 action at Birmingham saw 276 Murray Jones begin proceedings with a win in heat one before the young guns took over, 866 Bob Griffin winning heat two and 921 Jack Aldridge a consolation and Final double, Jones and 154 Steve Green Jnr his placemen in the main event(pictured) The latter would win the GN which was sadly turned into a banger race thanks to the Jones brothers and 99 Simon Young who all ended up in the sin bin for their exploits.

The next day the F1 action at Hednesford kicked off with heat wins for 515 Junior Wainman’s new tarmac car and 21 Mark Gilbank after a last bend lunge at Newson. The consolation saw original winner 60 Ian Venables docked for a jump start, then Smith fail the weight check and 12 Michael Scriven was awarded the win. The Final began with a big turn one crash for H399 Jessy de Bruin and 191 Joshua Smith which ripped out a section of Armco leading to a delay while the marshals showed off their civil engineering skills! The restart brought more turn one problems as James Neachell spun and was T-boned heavily by 259 Paul Hines and collected by 300 Paul Carter with all drivers fortunately escaping OK. When things resumed Venables pulled away to win from Wainman and 484 Craig Utley, the latter winning the GN at a canter.

The F2s saw a lot of big names in attendance but the heat seemed to have an adverse effect on them as many were beset by mechanical problems, 7 Gordon Moodie only recording one finish while 606 Andrew Palmer and 445 Nigel Green failed to complete a race. Even 886 Chris Bradbury – fresh from Mildenhall the night before – failed to finish the two heats, but he bounced back to win the Final from 101 Kelvyn Whalley and 401 Barry Goldin. The latter won heat one and 88 Tim Sugden took heat two which less than half the field finished, while Steve Green Jnr won the GN. The afternoon also sadly saw injuries to 362 Dave Harley and 120 Luke Loveland – best wishes to both of them for a quick recovery.

The National Ministox had a rare run-out at Hednesford and the young racers put on a great show, 1 Bradley Harrison winning heat one before he was involved in a stunning four-way battle for the lead of heat two, 98 Tom Spencer just winning it from 212 Phoebe Wainman, Harrison and 91 Terri-Ann Smith who was docked places for jumping a restart. 777 Max Hertzog nipped past Harrison on the last bend of the Final to just take the spoils by a bumper, Spencer third.

It was also a big day for the National Bangers with almost 30 2 Litre cars fighting it out for three places on the 2 Litre World grid next month. 2009 champion 190 Steve Bailey – fresh from Scotland the night before – won heat one to book his place and he also won heat two with second placed 101 Nobby Roberts receiving the grid slot. The latter won the day’s Final with the World Final place going to runner-up 601 Lee Usher who had done well to repair his Primera after being attacked by the Mondeo hordes in heat two. 999 Scott Hill won the DD after finishing off team-mate 181 Grant Doe.
