Foxhall Stadium Meeting Preview 20th March 2010 - Added 18/03/2010

Big Banger meetings at Foxhall are always a big hit with race fans, so this Saturday night (6.45 start time) will be one not to miss as the first Foxhall National Banger outing of the 2010 season gets underway. The “Raid” for under 1600cc cars will see a £2000 prize fund which will ensure action all night with nearly 100 cars booked in to race.

3 Ex World Champions are expected, Dale Hughes who won the title here in 2008 along with Jason ‘Boxer Jack’ Jackson (2006 & 2007) and Gary Madgwick (1997) will be in the thick of the action, as will rising East Anglian star Kyle Overy. Derek “Undertaker” Caton seems to have been racing for decades, take a look on the roof of his car to see which number this car is, Derek has always numbered his cars right from the start of his career in car number 1. Local interest will be on Bucklesham driver Michael Mills and fellow Ipswich star Joe Palmer, Palmer never afraid to get stuck in and a regular at Foxhall in both National and domestic Banger racing. Among the big names appearing is Alan “Jethro” Hunt who is one of the sorts most travelled star drivers as the National Banger scene covers the entire UK. Looking at the choice of cars should throw up a few oddball models, given that this is an under 1600cc event the usual National Banger choices of Jaguars, Granadas, Volvos are clearly not going to be allowed. Expect the pits to look like the Tokyo Motor Show, with a good mix from Honda, Toyota, Nissan and a few of the Far Eastern manufacturers. Throw in a mix of Vectra's, Cavalier's & Mondeo's and away we go for a great night, when the driver who takes the big money home will have certainly earned it on the night.

Ministox make a rare visit to Foxhall, always welcome here before their hectic summer schedule gets underway at Great Yarmouth these cars can get up to quite high speeds around the wide open Foxhall Raceway. New to the formula from Saxmundham is young Will Morphey, following in his dads footsteps onto the ovals Will is already mixing it with the formulas bigger names like Bryson Walker and James Meadows from Woodbridge. Making the trip up from the south is Georgie Boult Jnr, Boult had his new car on show at Autosport International at the NEC back in January and very smart it looked to, yet to race it as he sticks with his tried and trusted car the London driver could well be a safe bet to take the honours this weekend.
Despite the fact that this is a class for the youngsters the commitment is still 100% and the drivers are prepared to travel to achieve the wins, Hannah Sear and Ryan Hoskins are making the trip up from the West Country, but spare a thought for Lyndsey Clyne, Cameron McGowan and Ross Walters, they will just about be arriving back home in Scotland while the rest of us are still enjoying our Sunday lay in!
2.0 Stock Cars make up the field in this 3 formula bash. Top of the points man George Morphey, will have a busy night as his son Will races in the Minis. George has secured his place at the top with his “take no prisoners” approach to his racing and anyone in front of his will get swiftly removed. Southern travellers Steve “Cecil” Anscombe and Billy Wood are expected and are the two most likely expected to take the fight to Morphey. Norfolks “Spud” Gamble fresh out of the Ministox and winner of the young driver of the year award, he has settled in to the formula very well and given the commitment of his team will develop into one of the leading lights. “2.0 Stock Cars are a one make class based on the Ford Sierra Hatchback or Saloon. Limited engine and suspension modification is allowed which ensure that the cars unpredictable handing keep the action alive.
