Spedeworth / Incarace and indeed the Motorsport world in general were very saddened to hear the news of the passing of Mick ‘Duffy’ Collard this past weekend.

It is very difficult to put into words the contribution he made to Oval Motorsport and National Hot Rod Racing in general. Indeed he was a legend and carried respect from his fellow Drivers and Race Fans the world over.

The pinnacle of Mick’s racing career came with the 1980 World Title, but there were many more occasions when he could have become World Champion, including some years prior and after that historic year.

Many titles were won during a wonderful racing career that entertained thousands of Race Fans and at last night’s Best in Britain meeting at Wimbledon, it was remembered that Mick was the winner of the inaugural Best In Britain meeting in 1980.

We are so proud that last February Mick was able to return to Wimbledon with his World Winning Replica Car for a Match Race with Barry Lee and enjoyed a final blast around Wimbledon showing he was as sharp behind the wheel as he ever was on a night full of emotion. It is not common knowledge but Mick had been suffering with a heavy cold the week previous yet prepared and set up the car himself determined to be there for the event so as not to disappoint anyone.

Typical of the man, he had the time for a chat with everyone in the pits at that meeting and signed scores of Autographs.

Last night at Wimbledon, a very emotional minutes silence was held prior to the start of the meeting as the sad news spread in the oval racing community.

Our sincere condolences go out to Lesley and all of their Family, and many, many friends at this very sad time.
