The Banger Mechanics Championship for FORDS Care

2013 sees the first ever nationwide Banger Mechanics’ Championship taking place in aid of FORDS Care, the Fund that supports drivers, staff and photographers injured on the race track. This is a chance for regular drivers to reward the hard work put in by their helpers by giving them a go on the fun side of the fence.

Mechanics’ races were once common at tracks around the country but for the first time the top finishers from each Qualifying Round will go on to a Grand Final, to be hosted by Spedeworth at Ipswich on 30th November. All they need is a sponsoring driver to supply the car and kit, and minimum sponsorship of £60. Every penny raised above the cost of the day licence goes directly to help a fellow racer while he can’t work due to an injury.

Mechanics races are strictly nudge and spin but they won’t be short of excitement as a full grid of untested ability drivers compete for a place in the final. Could this championship be the beginning for stars of the future? Will the top drivers have the top mechanics? Will keyboard heroes turn out to be zeroes? Help them get on track by sponsoring your favourite driver’s mechanic to get out there and prove themselves.

Arlington – Wednesday 10th July
Ipswich – Saturday 27th July
Yarmouth – Tuesday 6th August
Birmingham – Wednesday 7th August
Northampton – Wednesday 14th August
Aldershot - Sunday 18th August
Hednesford – Sunday 8th September
Wimbledon – Sunday 29th September
