Browning & Hide Take Last WF Spots!

Added 5/8/13

The BWS ended on a high last Wednesday evening at Arlington Stadium with 72 cars contesting the last 2 Wild Card spots on the World Final grid in front of a bumper crowd.

After a lively couple of heats, the first Wild Card race went to Dale Hughes with Mark Welland in 2nd place, but with these two having already qualified for the World Final it meant that 3rd place would get in. There was a good battle for the place between Joey Reynolds and Rob Browning, but it was the more experienced Browning who took it in the final few laps!

The 2nd of the Wild Card races saw Chris 'Lossy' Hide lead for most of the race without looking in any trouble, until the last couple of laps at least when the back marking World Champion Boxer Jack started closing in, a last bend lunge taking Hide into the fence but he did well to hold on and battle his way through to the flag and that all-important wild card place!

Charlie King then won the Showdown before a no-holds-barred Destruction Derby saw the entertaining Andrew Jones outlast the opposition to win, with Gladiator Phil Smith the runner up.

Our 'sideshow' of a production car race between the History Channel 'Banger Boys' went down well with those lads showing they know how to entertain!

And so the BWS draws to a close for 2013. It will be back for 2014, with a few tweeks! Watch this space for more information in due course!

Thanks to Alex Catley for the photos.

BWS - The Last Stand!

Added 29/7/13

It's all been building up to this one, and the final round of the 2013 BWS is with us on Wednesday at Arlington Stadium, from 7.30pm.

Two Wild Card places for the all-important World Final at Ipswich (12th October) MUST be won on the night! With close to 80 cars still booked (and what a booking list it is!) it promises to make sure this year's BWS goes out with a bang!

With all the 'usual suspects' booked in, the likes of the Brighton Bears, Midnight Runners, Team DWO, the Buglers, Damage Inc, the Reynolds, the Gladiators (on their first visit to Arlington), the Predators, the Hughes boys, the Cowboys, and there's plenty of top indivdual talent as well. Factor in the return to racing of Sonny Sherwood after a long enforced break, and Compo from the Bears after injury, and it's going to be one not to miss!

We have Production Car Lap Trials for spectators who have brought their own cars along, a couple of timed laps each to see who can brag at being the quickest round the Eastbourne circuit, and with the narrow track it sometimes gets a bit 'hairy'!

The Banger Boys of TV fame are taking part in their own production car challenge race on the night too, with regular racers Cecil, Flip and Mark Longhurst taking on Vaughan 'Big Hoss' Elms on track for the first time - can Big Hoss show them how it's done?!!!!

As usual we will be having a pre-meeting free photo signing session with some of our BWS stars - this will be held in the Speedway pits (behind the scoreboard turn between the food outlets) from around 6.40pm, scheduled to be holding the pens this time will be 190 Steve 'Pikey' Bailey, 252 Steve 'Boogie' Bugler, 331 Jason 'Boxer Jack' Jackson, 421 'Nutty Nige' Riley, 521 'Ace Ash' Riley and 549 Phil Smith.

So far the BWS has seen Wild Card places won by 27 Dale Hughes, 33 Gary Madgwick, 264 Mark Welland, 294 Lee Hughes, 382 Jack Foster Jnr and 601 Lee Usher, so who will win the last two coveted places on that World Final grid?

Find out this Wednesday 31st July from 7.30pm. Admission 15 Adults, 12 Seniors, 6 Children, 40 Family Ticket (2 adults and up to 3 children). Spectator gates open by 6.30pm.

We will also be selling pit passes in the pits for a voluntary donation to FORDS, the fund for injured drivers, so please do give generously if you are able to do so.

Magic Makes It!

Added 16/7/13

Congratulations to former National Banger World Champion 33 Gary Madgwick, who secured his place on the 2013 World Final grid with a win in the Banger World Series Round 7 wild card race. Madgwick won the World Final in 1997 and qualified via the last chance race last year, he was on the edge of the qualifying places in the Spedeworth points chart but doesn't have to worry about that now!

Around 40 cars contested the event with some good action in each race, but Madgwick took advantage of his pole position draw for the Wild Card race after winning the earlier heat, and pulled clear of 2nd placed 247 Lee 'Bro' Clarke to take the coveted World Final place and the world final spec paint job courtesy of Garry Chapman as well!

All roads now lead to Arlington for Round 8, the last round where we have 2 World Final places on offer, and a fully booked list of 80 drivers waiting to do battle!

Thanks to Alex Catley for the photos.

Battle in the Hills!

Added 12/7/13

This Sunday 14th July sees the BWS tour move on to Hednesford Hills Raceway for Round 7, and with close on 50 cars booked and sunshine promised (apparently), it promises to be another great day!

With one extra wild card place already carried over to the final round at Arlington on 31st July, will one of the pre-qualifiers win this one too and make Arlington all that bit more enticing?!

The ever popular free photo signing session starts at 11.45am on Sunday near the bar on the back straight side with the drivers on duty this week to sign personalised photos for their fans being 180 Mark 'Sparky' Foster, 190 Steve 'Pikey' Bailey, 239 Steve 'Nemesis' Carter, 382 'Chubby' Jack Foster Jnr, plus the Gladiators pair of 542 Craig Oliver and 549 Phil Smith. Bring the kids along to meet the drivers and Timmy the Tyre, and get a photo signed! The signing session is due to finish at 12.30pm so don't leave it too late!

The on track action is sure to continue with the Brighton Bears, Team DWO, the Buglers, the Reynolds' etc all in attendance again. The meeting doubles as a World Qualifying round for Incarace registered drivers so there's points up for grabs for them, but for those from the South it's either go for the wild card or go for the crash - we know what many of them will be looking for and it's not chequered!

It's Yarmouth Time!

Added 17/6/13

The Banger World Series heads to the Norfolk coast this weekend with Sunday's Round 6 at Great Yarmouth Stadium! With 45 cars booked already and with the added spice of turning round on the bends in all races being allowed at Yarmouth for this meeting, it promises to be another top night of racing in East Anglia!

The ever popular driver photo signing session starts at 4pm so get the kids there early to take advantage of the free photos with the drivers, or of course with Timmy the Tyre who tells us he is going too! The drivers scheduled to be on signing duties for this round are 190 Steve 'Pikey' Bailey, 247 Lee 'Bro' Clarke, 260 Keith 'Keefy' Reynolds, 331 Jason 'Boxer Jack' Jackson, 360 Jack 'Jackstar' Reynolds and 433 Ben Smith.

The battle for National Banger World Qualifying places is hotting up as the season progresses, with points on all races towards the World Qualifying series as well as that Wild Card being on offer for the winner of the Great Yarmouth Final, along with a free world final spec paint job courtesy of Chris Signs. And with the winner takes all prize of 200 on the Showdown at the end of the night we're in for a cracking evening's entertainment!

Jack Foster Jnr takes BWS Round 5!

Added 10/6/13

Round 5 of the Banger World Series took us to the ever changing Foxhall Raceway in Ipswich, and it was 382 'Chubby' Jack Foster Jnr who won the Wild Card race, though as he had already won round 1 at Wimbledon in March the wild card place rolls over to the final BWS round at Arlington Stadium on 31st July, as does the free Dan Klyn paint job which goes with the win!

This means that as things stand the top 2 in the Wild Card race that day will qualify for the World Final. To compete at Arlington that night, drivers will have had to have raced at least one of the previous 7 BWS rounds.

61 cars competed at Round 5 and there was again some top action from the National Banger boys. Heats went to 264 Mark Welland and Jack Foster Jnr with the Showdown going the way of 247 Lee 'Bro' Clarke, who went on to put on a stunning show in the Destruction Derby before narrowly losing out to his running mate 821 Ryan 'Dangerous' Preston.

Entertainer awards on the night went to 331 'Boxer Jack' Jason Jackson, 266 Callum 'Oddjob' Hall, 262 Rob 'Roona' Bugler and 221 Justin 'Motormouth' Riley.

All roads now lead to Great Yarmouth for Round 6 in 2 weeks time, this round in particular is much awaited and with the post and wire fence it promises to be a spectacular night's action on 23rd June!

Thanks to Chris Berry for the photos!

Usha wins BWS Round 4!

Added 30/5/13

Congratulations to Incarace registered National Banger star 601 Lee 'Usha' Usher who came away from Birmingham Wheels Raceway on Saturday with a Wild Card entry into the World Final at Ipswich in October!

Lee won the Wild Card race after having come so close to doing just that at Round 3 at Pr1mo Northampton last month, and as part of his prize he also gets a World Final spec paint job courtesy of our kind sponsor Dom Davies signs!

44 cars contested the event which was down on what was expected mainly due to drivers booking out for various reasons - things seemed to conspire against us a bit but for Round 5 at Ipswich next week we should be back with better numbers!

We are pleased to confirm that Gladiators 542 Craig Oliver and 549 Phil Smith plus 252 Steven 'Boogie' Bugler and 262 Rob 'Roona' Bugler will all be back with us for Round 5 and they stay with the Banger World Series.

The Wild Card winner at Ipswich wins a World Final spec paint job courtesy of our Round 5 sponsor, Dan Klyn.

Thanks to Phill Cornish for the photos!

All Roads Lead To Birmingham Wheels!

Added 23/5/13

Round 4 of the Banger World Series is almost with us, this Saturday seeing the Birmingham Wheels round of the series with 65 Unlimited National Bangers on the booking list at present.

The pre-meeting free photo signing takes place as usual with those on duty for this round being 67 Rickie Beasley, 180 Mark 'Sparky' Foster, 190 Steve 'Pikey' Bailey, 221 Justin 'Motor Mouth' Riley, 382 'Chubby' Jack Foster Jnr and 421 'Nutty Nige' Riley. Bring the kids for free signed and personalised photos from 4.50pm behind race control!

Steve Bailey will arrive at Birmingham as the newly crowned 2 Litre World Champion following his win at Hednesford Hills Raceway last Sunday, that title race saw some friction between Steve and Boxer Jack so it will be interesting to see if this carries on at Birmingham. Whether it does or not, there is plenty of spice guaranteed with the names on the booking list so it promises to be another top night of action.

With the large numbers booked in, the current plan is to run an extra heat for the National Bangers, with the format being 2 x half car heats, an all-in heat, then the Wild Card Final and Showdown. The winners of all three heats will draw for their positions at the front or back of the grid in the Wild Card race.

As at each round, the Wild Card winner not only gets his place on the World Final grid at Ipswich in October, but also wins a world final spec signwriting job courtesy this time of Dom Davies Signs, so we thank Dom for his kind sponsorship!

Most people know the Showdown rules now, but to confirm it's the first to complete 10 laps or the last car running, with turning round permitted on the bends only, and 200 to the winner!

BWS merchandise courtesy of Graphics By Dave will again be available from the track shop behind race control, with proceeds from all sales going direct to the drivers.

The Grand Parade for all National Bangers is at 6.15 with the first race at 6.30pm, and with the National Bangers due on first so we ask all drivers to be there in plenty of time to be scrutineered and ready for the parade at 6.15 please!

Next New Recruit for BWS!

Added 10/5/13

We are pleased to confirm that 180 Mark 'Sparky' Foster joins the BWS for the remaining 5 rounds of the series, starting at Birmingham Wheels on 25th May.

Sparky had been on a ban but is now back and racing and we are happy to welcome another top entertainer to the group.

With 66 cars already booked for Round 4 at Birmingham it promises to be another top night!

Stuntman Takes BWS Round 3!

Added 29/4/13

Congratulations to National Banger star 294 Lee 'Stuntman' Hughes who won the World Final Wild Card at Banger World Series Round 3 at Pr1mo Northampton International Raceway on Sunday.

A strong field of over 50 cars competed for the single World Final grid place available, with the opening heats going to Lee and to 67 Rickie Beasley. In the all-important draw for the Wild Card race, Hughes drew the front row and Beasley the back. Hughes got off to a flying start but was soon realed in and overtaken by Incarace star 601 Lee 'Usha' Usher who opened up a big lead.

Usha had not accounted for Lee's brother 27 Dale Hughes though, who showed excellent observation to slow Usha down on the last lap by getting in his way, holding him up long enough for Lee Hughes to get by right on the line to take the win and the place at Ipswich's big race in October!

The Showdown was a McPhilimey family benefit with 425 Neil McPhilimey taking the win and the 200 prize, with brother 427 Dean McPhilimey in 2nd!

The meeting provided more of the excellent racing and crashing the BWS has provided so far this year, and our thanks again go out to all the drivers and their teams for all their hard work as well as the significant time and money which goes into building these cars!

Round 4 of the BWS is at Birmingham Wheels on Saturday 25th May!

Thanks to Alex Catley for the photos!
