Message: A great man - Mr Gatsby will be missed

Name: Rees Steven
Message: Extremely sad news but perhaps on reflection time to `celebrate' an iconic man who has arguably individually played the biggest part in the development of UK oval racing across three decades and the brand name `Spedeworth' became a household name.
The sound foundations carefully laid by the Eaton family live on and Les will have parted in the full knowledge that `his' empire is in the innovative hands of an equally enthusiastic `entrepreneur'.
Whatever ones oval racing `religion' - Les was a `God' and whilst this is a sad time, there is so much left in his legacy to celebrate that will continue.
Jackie and myself, indeed all at Startrax, extend our sincerest condolences at this extremely difficult time.

Message: Les, from that small acorn that was Paramount you grew the massive family tree that became Spedeworth, the organisation that did so much to shape the lives of so many, including mine. THANK YOU so much for the racing and your support down the years - it meant a great deal. We'll be saying goodbye on Friday but we'll never forget you sir.

Message: Thanks for your legacy Mr Eaton. Rest in peace.

Name: Lee Maher
Message: Les was a fantastic showman and knew exactly what the sport needed to promote any occasion to the fullest. Stock car racing and Spedeworth were shaped by his incredible imagination and vision, and I'm sure we all have fond memories of particular meetings/events often managed from the centre green by Les himself! He was a tireless promoter and the sport has lost its founding father. You shaped how I perceive the sport to this very day and I'm sure many others too. We will miss you... RIP Les Eaton.

Thanks to Les we have the wonderful sport that we watch today otherwise we would have to stay at home watching that crappy XFACTOR.
I also wouldnt have got to make so many friends seen so many great races and watched some amazing crashes in my time as a spectator and scribe.
Les Eaton never got to speak to the man but two words sum him up "A GENIUS" thanks for many great hours of pleasure you can now enjoy it in peace watching it from on high in the sky.

Name: Roy Wood
Message: I first met Les & Mavis Eaton in July 1961 when I signed up to race at Aldershot Stadium, the beginning of a long and valued friendship. As I was a partner in a firm running excavators, we became involved in the development of a new track at Reading the next year. In 1964, I was declared bankrupt, a fate shared with many dedicated racers, and Spedeworth employed me to erect safety fences at other new tracks until I was able to find a “proper job”. Over the next ten years, I took part in some stunt driving events, was secretary of the driver’s committee and contributed cartoons and magazine articles etc. All of which brought me into close contact with the Eaton family, and cemented our mutual respect for one another.
But for my association with Les & Mavis, I would never have gained the confidence to go on to any of the other challenges of my later life, so I owe them a huge debt of gratitude. My sympathy goes out to all friends and family for their sad loss.
Roy Wood (82)
